Rose Lake Forest
Welcome to Rose Lake Forest. Beautiful building sites are available, with private access to 400 acre lake, electric, telephone, and county-maintained roads. Most sites suitable for mobile-home and/or camping.
Rose Lake Forest is located near LeRoy, in Rose Lake township, Osceola county, Michigan. It is about a fifteen minute drive to Reed City to the south, and about twenty minutes from Cadillac, to the north. Directly across from the entrance (shown at right) is The Rose golf course. Less than two miles east is Rose Lake county park, which has a public boat launch.
Rose Lake Forest is comprised mostly of land once owned by Edward M. Knabush, chairman and founder of the Lazy Boy Chair Company. Containing over a million board feet of hardrock maple, it was originally planned to be cut for the manufacture of chairs.
Mr. Knabush was approached by the Pine River Timber Company which wanted to build a beautiful place for quiet living, and recreation. Knabush, who loved nature, looked at the plans and agreed. No chairs would ever be made from this land!
Roads were built which wrapped around the rolling hills, and left the nicest trees standing. Access is maintained by the county year-round. Underground electric is run throughout, eliminating unsightly wires.
Parcels are generous in size, and are divided with the lay of the land in mind. Each parcel backs up to private park, or "Greenbelt," rather than other parcels, so neighbors aren't too close. There are few restrictions on their use; mostly just common sense. Some are "build-only," but many may be used for camping, or mobile-homes.
The many private parks include a private beach on beautiful Rose Lake, with over two hundred feet of frontage. There is plenty of room for swimming, fishing, landing/parking boats, and just plain relaxing. Rose Lake is a natural lake, approximately 400 acres in size, with nearly nine miles of shoreline. All property owners have keys to the locked, private bathrooms near the beach, with flush-toilets and fresh, running water.
Those property owners who don't want to put in a well and septic, but have a self-contained camper, can use the dumping-flushing station, where they can safely empty their waste tanks, and refresh their water supplies with fresh, cold water from the frost-free spigots. The private trash-collection site, available to all property owners, is conveniently located in the same place. This park also features a large pavilion with a built-in barbeque, for those large family get-togethers.
The Property Owner's Association maintains the parks, and pays the property taxes on all the common lands. A yearly fee of $35 per lot is paid to the Association, to cover these expenses.
